Parent-Child Relationship Therapy (CPRT) is an effective, evidence-based therapeutic approach focused on improving the relationship between children/adolescents and their parents or caregivers. CPRT is rooted in the principles of play therapy, where parents are trained to engage in therapeutic play with their children to strengthen the parent-child bond, enhance communication, and address emotional or behavioral issues. CPRT can also be adapted for schools, helping teachers interact therapeutically with students. When applied in schools, it is called Child-Teacher Relationship Training.

Key Aspects of CPRT:

-
Training for Parents/Caregivers/Teachers: They learn specific play therapy skills commonly used by professional therapists. These skills are applied during special 30-minute play sessions with the child/adolescent, which should be conducted weekly.
-
Attachment Theory-Based: The therapy emphasizes strengthening the emotional connection between the parent/caregiver/teacher and the child/adolescent, leading to improved emotional regulation and behavior in children/adolescents.
-
Play as a Means of Communication: Since children often express their feelings and experiences through play rather than words, CPRT helps parents/caregivers/teachers better understand and respond to the child’s emotional needs.
-
Empowering Parents/Caregivers/Teachers: Instead of focusing only on the child/adolescent’s behavior, CPRT provides parents/caregivers/teachers with tools to address emotional and behavioral challenges at home or school.
-
Research-Based: Studies have shown that CPRT can effectively reduce behavioral problems in children, strengthen the parent-child bond, and reduce parental stress.

In summary, CPRT is a structured therapeutic process designed to foster stronger, more positive relationships between adults and children, using play as a means of interaction and communication. CPRT is offered only in person.
